Mýrafinnungar – Trichophorum
Innan hálfgrasaættar (Cyperaceae) var ættkvíslin Scirpus í eina tíð langstærst með um 400 tegundir. Síðan var kvíslin smám saman skorin niður í um 120 tegundir og hinar tegundirnar dreifðust á ýmsar kvíslir. Af þeim eru aðeins tvær hérlendis, Eleocharis og sú, sem er til umfjöllunar hér, Trichophorum.
Þar sem aðeins ein tegund af Trichophorum vex hér á landi, er sérstök ættkvílarlýsing óþörf. Í gömlum plöntulistum (sjá t.d. König & Müller 1770) og í Islands Flora (1881) eftir Chr. Grönlund er getið um T. alpinum (Eriophorum alpinum, sem nefna mætti fjallafinnung) og á að vaxa á nokkrum stöðum, meðal annars í Strandasýslu, Reykjavík og á Öxnadalsheiði. Fundur þessarar tegundar hefur þó aldrei verið staðfestur.
Ættkvíslarnafnið Trichophorum er dregið af grísku orðunum thrix, hár, og foros, bera; það er sú, sem er með hár, en í blóminu er burstkrans með sex langæjar burstir.
Mýrafinnungur – Trichophorum cespitosum (L.) Hartm.
Jarðstöngull er stuttur og án renglna; upp af honum vaxa mörg, oftast bogin og gárótt strá í þéttum og stórum toppum. Neðstu slíðrin eru gulhvít og frá því efsta gengur stutt, broddlaga blaðka.
Blóm á mýrafinnungi. Teikn. ÁHB.
Ax er endastætt, með 3-10 blóm, móleitt. Axhlífar eru ljósbrúnar með ljósa miðrák; hinar tvær neðstu ganga fram í sívalan, grænan odd. Í hverju blómi eru sex sléttar blómburstir; þær lengjast ekki að blómgun lokinni nema þá örlítið en eru lengri en hnotin. Fræflar eru 3 með 3 mm langa frjóknappa. Fræva er með 3 fræni. Aldin er hneta, öfugegglaga, grábrún til gulgrá á lit, 1,4-1,7 mm á hæð.
Tegundinni hefur verið skipt í tvær undirtegundir (subspecies):
1 Efsta slíður þverstíft með mjóan, ljósan himnufald ……………………………. ssp. cespitosum
1 Efsta slíður kíllaga með breiðan, rauð- eða ryðbrúnan himnufald ……… ssp. germanicum
Ekki eru glögg skil á milli þessara undirtegunda, en hin síðar nefnda, ssp. germanicum (Palla) Hegi, hefur ekki fundizt hér með vissu. Viðurnafnið cespitosum merkir þýfður.
Vex í votlendi. Algengur um land allt nema á miðhálendinu. Blómgast í maí. 10-35 cm á hæð.
Græni broddurinn á neðstu axhlíf er greinilegur og gott einkenni. Ljósm. ÁHB.
Hefur verið nefndur ýmsum nöfnum, svo sem mýrasef, mosaskúfgras og mýranál. Mýrafinnungur er þó auðþekktur frá öðrum líkum tegundum, eins og skúfum (Eleocharis), á græna broddinum á neðstu axhlífinni. Á stundum vantar ax á sum strá og halda margir, að það séu þá blöð.
Þurrkað eintak af mýrafinnungi. Blöðkur neðarlega á stráum eru greinilegar. Ljósm. ÁHB.
