Ættkvíslin Paludella Ehrhardt ex Bridel (rekilmosar) telst til Meesiaceae (snoppumosaættar) ásamt ásamt kvíslunum Amblyodon (dropmosum), Leptobryum (nálmosum) og Meesia (snoppumosum).
Í kvíslinni er aðeins ein tegund blaðmosa. Það er því nóg að lýsa tegundinni.
Ættkvíslarnafnið paludella er komið úr latínu, ‘palus’ votlendi og ‘-ellus’ er smækkunarviðskeyti. Það er til merkis um, að tegundin vaxi í votlendi.
Paludella squarrosa (Hedw.) Brid. – rekilmosi
Plöntur eru 3-15 cm á hæð, ljósgrænar til gulgrænar, en geta þó verið dökkgrænar, en brúnleitar neðan til. Stöngull er oftast ógreindur og þéttklæddur brúnni eða rauðbrúnni rætlingaló.
Blöð eru í fimm greinilegum röðum á stöngli, 1,5-2,5 mm á lengd, kjöluð. Lögun blaða er fastmótuð: Rauðleitur blaðgrunnur liggur þétt að stöngli með niðurhleyptar rendur, miðhluti stendur þvert út frá stöngli og blaðendi blaðs er baksveigður. Blaðrönd útundin neðst en tennt efst. Rif er einfalt og endar rétt neðan við blaðenda.
Frumur í blaði framan til eru hringlaga sexhyrndar með frekar þykka veggi og á miðri hverri frumu er gúlpur. Í blaðgrunni eru frumur ferhyrndar, langar og sléttar.
Plöntur eru einkynja og gróhirzlur hafa ekki fundizt á íslenzkum eintökum. Karlkynhirzlur eru rauðlitar; kvenhlífarblöð eru allnokkru stærri en stöngulblöð.
Er allvíða um land, nema sjaldséð á Suður- og Norðausturlandi. Vex í margs konar votlendi og oft í stórum breiðum.
Þetta er ein auðþekktasta mosategund landsins. Kvíslarnafnið squarrosus er latína og merkir ‘hornrétt útstæður’; upphaflega merkir orðið þó hreistraður, með hreistur.
