Á þessu svæði er að stórum hluta tún og beitarhólf, þ.e.a.s. svæði í notkun.
Það er jafnað undir girðingar því í dag vilja menn hafa gott svæði til að keyra meðfram girðingunum til að flytja efni og ekki síður til að auðvelda eftirlit og viðhald. Á því svæði sem sýnt er á myndinni er þýfi með lynggróðri og var það jafnað með tætara, þannig að gróðurlagið (svarðlagið) er enn til staðar. Það sést á myndinni ef vel er gáð. Það er álitamál hversu breitt svæðið þarf að vera, en það er t.d. háð breidd á vélum sem vinna verkið.
Annað mál er að heimamenn og þar með talið stjórnendur þjóðgarðsins gera þá kröfu að haldið verði áfram með girðinguna í næsta áfanga verksins, en því er Vegagerðin ekki sammála. Samtals eru það um 8 km af girðingu austan vegar og 12 km vestan vegar. Þjóðgarðsvörður vill að girðingin verði talsvert frá vegsvæðinu sem þýðir að það þarf sérstaklega að jafna svæði undir hana. Vegagerðin hefur bent þjóðgarðsverði og landgræðslunni á þær skemmdir sem verða þegar farið er yfir gróðurlendi. Þeim hefur verið tilkynnt að ekki verði haldið áfram með verkið nema fá fyrirskrifað frá þeim hvernig eigi að standa að því. Fyrst og fremst þarf að ákveða leguna og hvernig á að jafna undir girðinguna á stórþýfu landi með lynggróðri. Flestir átta sig á því að ekki verður girt til að halda sauðfé frá nema að girðingarsvæðið verði jafnað og ekki verður það gert með stunguspaða á 20 km kafla. Ef af verður má þó reikna með að svæðið verði mjókkað. Vegagerðin hefur engan áhuga á að valda óþarfa raski vegna girðinga á þessu svæði og mun ekki framkvæma það verk nema í samráði við hagsmunaaðila á svæðinu.
Varðandi lúpínu þá var sérstaklega tekið fram í útboðsgögnum, og síðan gengið eftir því, að ýtt væri ofan af námusvæðinu og reynt að gæta þess þannig að lúpína færi ekki með efninu. Engin önnur náma er tiltæk fyrr en 18 km inn á Dettifossveginum og þangað er enginn vegur til að flytja efnið eftir í dag. Því er ekki annað fært en að sækja efnið út á sandinn.
